Eurowings Discover to compete for exotic destinations also from Poland/CEE
The new Lufthansa company will successfully join the competition for an “exotic cake”? Additional offer from Berlin will please Tour Operators and Polish individual clients?
Lufthansa is definitely investing in the exotic travel market. The newly established company, Eurowings Discover, is to focus strictly on this area of activity. What does this mean for a Polish passenger?
New all-year-round exotic connections from Frankfurt
During the ITB trade fair in Berlin, we were able to take part in a short presentation of the concept of the German line. It boils down to year-round flying in exotic directions. What is worth emphasizing, the differences between the summer and winter offer are not that big. A large proportion of the connections successfully sold by LHG in winter remain in the Eurowings Discover summer network.
Eurowings will fly slightly older Airbus A330-300s, which will certainly enable it to offer lower prices. Importantly, the airline will be supported by Lufthansa in terms of both system and tariffs. Feeding to Frankfurt from all over Europe will be provided by, among others, the German carrier (LHG group).
As if that was not enough, the FLY & Rail travel offer has also been expanded, a Berlin Frankfurt train connection will be available soon, with a further change to ED flights. This may also appeal to Polish customers.
What new products – can Alaska or Calgary sell in Poland?
As we mentioned, the offered holiday destinations are in principle 100% in line with expectations. So we have typical holidays Maldives, Mauritius, Punta Cana, Mombasa, Zanzibar, Costa Rica and Cancun. Jamaica is to be added to this list in winter. An attentive observer will also see almost copies of Condor’s offer with Namibia or Alaska and even Las Vegas mentioned in the headline. It is worth adding that the list shown during the ITB is richer than the one announced in February.
Interesting raisins are typical “winter” destinations such as Alaska or Canadian Calgary. From Germany they have been selling very well for years. Is there a chance for a similar trend from Poland? It seems that such similar destinations such as Iceland and Faroe Islands also found a large group of fans with us. Especially in the Mice industry or boutique / tailor-made travels.
In Poland, in the case of Alaska, there may also be a demand for the Work & Travel offer.
Eurowings Discover / Lufthansa shoots at Condor
It cannot be ignored that the new offer of Lufthansa is a decisive hit at Condor. The prelude to this was the termination of the passenger transport contract. Condor was left without its main partner. And this fact coincides with the launch of summer flights by ED.
In the case of Poland, LOT Condor certainly cannot be competitive. The Polish carrier will add at least PLN 800-1000 for the WAW-FRA-WAW section alone, and this is definitely too much to be competitive on “holiday” long-distance destinations.
Condor in Poland was also unable to offer an attractive tour operator offer. Eurowings will not have a problem with this, after all, it sees what are the trends and who needs to be offered such rates to be able to compete for this constantly growing cake.
The Eurowings base in Berlin a chance for cheap flights and a dynamic package offer for PL TOs
This is not the end of good news from German carriers. Well, Eurowings itself has announced that it will base additional planes at the airport in Berlin. Which will allow you to offer some interesting short / medium-haul connections.
Both individual clients and tour operators should be pleased with this. Especially those offering the dynamic packaging product from Berlin. Top Touristic, Exim or Nekera will definitely use this option.
The option of flights to Lebanon may be interesting for the pilgrimage market. After all, pilgrimages to Saint Charbel in pre-pandemic times enjoyed great and growing popularity.
Pilgrimage market from Poland – will vaccinations and LOT bring a new boost?
Certainly, the German airlines will very much join the fight for the Polish customer. Both those looking for exotic distant directions. As well as the one who will be satisfied with Egypt, the Balkans, the Canary Islands or Lebanon.
